Barry is a highly regarded aviation executive and advisor to airlines, aviation investors and a range of industry stakeholders and until recently, was Head of Strategy for a family office private equity firm based in the Middle East. Recent airline executive roles have been with fastjet Plc, as Head of Strategy and Interim Head of Commercial, working with the newly appointed CEO to restructure the airline and relocate it from London to Africa as well as five years as Chief Strategy Officer with South African Airways. Prior to this he was with CAPA Consulting, during which time he provided advice to some of the world’s major airlines and notably was a member of the team responsible for the establishment of SAA’s highly successful low-cost carrier Mango Airlines, remaining post-launch as their Head of Commercial for two years. He has also held a number of executive roles in major airlines, including Vice President Relaunch Program with Air New Zealand and General Manager of the Sydney Olympic Games sponsorship with Ansett Australia. More recent advisory work has focused on an African airline startup, airline bankruptcy and airline corporate plan development, governance and risk management. He is also developing two private equity opportunities and has been an independent director of airline/MRO boards and their committees. Barry holds an Economics degree from La Trobe University and Post Graduate Diploma in Arts (Russian Studies) from the University of Melbourne and is a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.
