With over 35 years’ experience in diverse roles in the aviation industry from human resource professional to chief executive of the commercial aviation trade association for New Zealand, Irene presently works as a director of an aviation consulting company IQ Aviation. A regulatory economist by training, she holds an MA in Economics from the University of Otago and an MBA from Henley Management College in the United Kingdom. With diverse interests from promoting commercial retailing to advocating on behalf of women’s rights as human rights, Irene chairs two not for profit Boards – the Grey Lynn Business Association where her and her daughters’ business The Floral Studio is based and Zonta Auckland, part of the Zonta International movement for women’s rights. Her passion remains aviation and she is currently leading a challenge before the Regulation Review Committee on the imposition of a new series of levies on commercial general aviation businesses in New Zealand. She is also engaged in lobbying for a series of changes to the civil aviation regulatory framework. An avid observer of the development of tourism throughout the South West Pacific, Irene frequently acts as a commentator on associated infrastructure concerns.
